Whois Lookup

Look up domain registration details including registrar, creation and expiration dates, name servers, and status information.

Enter a domain name without http:// or www (e.g., example.com)
google.com github.com wikipedia.org cloudflare.com

How It Works

This tool uses the RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) to query domain registration information. RDAP is the modern, standardized replacement for the traditional WHOIS protocol, providing structured data via RESTful APIs.

What is Whois?

Whois is a query protocol used to look up information about registered domain names, IP addresses, and autonomous systems. When you register a domain, your registration details are stored in a database maintained by the domain registrar and registry.

Information Returned
  • Registrar: The company where the domain was registered
  • Registration Date: When the domain was first registered
  • Expiration Date: When the registration expires
  • Last Updated: When the record was last modified
  • Name Servers: DNS servers authoritative for the domain
  • Domain Status: EPP status codes indicating the domain state
Common Domain Status Codes
  • clientTransferProhibited — Transfer to another registrar is locked
  • clientDeleteProhibited — Domain cannot be deleted
  • clientUpdateProhibited — Domain details cannot be modified
  • serverTransferProhibited — Registry-level transfer lock
  • active — Domain is registered and active
RDAP vs Traditional WHOIS
  • Structured data: RDAP returns JSON instead of freeform text
  • Standardized: Consistent format across registries (RFC 7482-7484)
  • Secure: Uses HTTPS for encrypted queries
  • Internationalized: Full Unicode support for international domains
Note: Many domain registrations use privacy protection services that mask the registrant's personal information. In these cases, the registrar's privacy service details will be shown instead.
